A hike in the traditional Colle Val d'Elsa countryside, which offers not only a visit to the ancient village, but also one of the most beautiful river routes in the Tuscan region.

  • Scale of difficulty: E
  • Walking distance: 15 km
  • Ascent/descent difference: 200 m
  • Price for 5 hours excursion: 150 Euros in total
The price includes a bilingual guide. The itinerary, as well as the price, may change depending on the needs of hikers and climatic conditions.
  • Trail details:
The hike will follow a panoramic circle beginnning from a countryside which still today retains its traditional pastures, olive groves and orchards, and where the vines are "married" to trees as they were in past centuries ( vitemaritate). We will begin from a part of the famous Via Francigena, the ancient pilgrim’s way, and we will follow the Elsa valley until the River Park, which hosts a range of wetland habitats of great importance to naturalists, home to countless specimens of specialised animal and plant life to delight the visitor. Water also favoured the development of Colle Val d’Elsa, a town that we will visit and renowned for the production of crystal glass and artwork as well as for its perfectly preserved ancient town centre; here, fully functioning mills dating back to Renaissance times can be seen alongside still recognisable paper mills and fulling mills, with the remains of Etruscan thermal baths also visible.
Upon request, lunch can be organized in the town of Colle Val d’Elsa.
  • Note: The hike requires a minimum of fitness, and equipment - walking shoes, rain coat, bottled water and a snack.
